Socially responsible jewellery from Arthus Bertrand
At Maison Arthus Bertrand, we have been honing our expertise and upholding the traditional values that have forged our history since 1803.
Mindful of the quality of our raw materials, the value of our human resources, and the protection of the environment, we are determined to stay true to our creative vision through socially responsible, ecologically committed efforts.
100% recycled gold
For the Arthus Bertrand family, preserving the beauty of our planet is a long-standing commitment.
In order to reduce the environmental impacts of jewellery production, our designs are entirely crafted in recycled precious metals.
Moreover, we have developed COLLECTOR, our own recycled gold collection and recovery scheme in France and Belgium. Customers can take part in this rewarding, worthwhile initiative by contributing their own used pieces of gold jewellery, so that the Maison may recycle them to make new items.
In keeping with our customers’ environmental awareness, Maison Arthus Bertrand also supports the French Foundation Good Planet, created in 2005 by the environmentalist, activist, journalist, and photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Together we have designed four gold medallions and three silver medallions, each crafted in recycled precious metal, of which a portion of the proceeds go to the Foundation.
Designed on the themes of water, air, earth, and sky, the gold medallions are exclusively made of customer-supplied gold, while the silver is recycled from other sources. The proceeds donated to the GoodPlanet Foundation are used to fund large-scale eco-projects.
In 2023, the Maison forged a new partnership with Castafiore, a platform specialising in buying and selling exceptional and vintage jewellery.
Both of the brand's co-founders are jewellery aficionados who embrace the Maison’s commitment to the circular economy.
Continuing its efforts to promote the reuse of existing resources, Arthus Bertrand encourages customers to bring a second life to treasured jewellery that they no longer wear. This new collaboration aims to showcase treasures of the past, bring them back to the present, and offer them a future.
As a forward-looking company, Maison Arthus Bertrand is continually developing new ideas to reduce our environmental footprint.
We prioritise eco-design research in order to create the biomaterials of tomorrow.
The value of commitment to local regions
We craft all of our designs at our Saumur and Palaiseau workshops, and always strive to contribute to local employment. Our workshops liaise with the regions’ Chambers of Commerce and Industry to recruit new artisans.
As a family firm, we remain attached to tradition and craftsmanship regardless of our growth. To ensure the transmission of our precious savoir-faire, our more experienced artisans – some of whom have been employed at our workshops for several decades – train young apprentices each year. We provide our employees with continual training and upskilling, and we endeavour to remain attentive to their expectations to ensure the development and welfare of each and every staff member.
An ethical, responsible approach
Arthus Bertrand’s core values include an ethical, responsible approach, and we only work with suppliers who share those principles. The manufacturing subsidiary of Maison Arthus Bertrand is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). The RJC strives to integrate best practices throughout the entire jewellery supply chain, fostering social progress, the respect of human rights, and environmental considerations.
. Maison Arthus Bertrand was awarded the EPV (‘Living Heritage Company’) label in 2014. This official national honour for outstanding craftsmanship recognises and rewards our attachment to traditional French savoir-faire.
