Traditionally given to a girl, the Virgin medal is one of the most popular pieces of christening jewellery. Arthus Bertrand medals are made in the company's French workshop in Saumur. Manufactured according to traditional methods, the design of the medal is first engraved on a plaster matrix, reproduced in turn on a steel matrix and then struck on the precious metal. This penultimate stage can be repeated several times, depending on the relief of the design, to give it finesse and depth. Finally, the medal undergoes a final finishing stage to give it a shiny or matt appearance, depending on the texture chosen.
To ensure the longevity of the Vierge medal, Arthus Bertrand also offers a collection of matching christening chains in 18-carat yellow or white gold. The choice of this jewellery depends on the metal and the weight of the medal. La Maison recommends choosing a chain in the same shade of metal as the medal and weighing at least as much as the medal itself.
